The squinting doll - Kurt Schwitters
I was given a story by Kurt Schwitters called the Squinting doll which tells the story of a boy who falls in love with a princess who dosn't feel the same way. I represented the story by showing it from both sides. The first being a china doll whose dress I made by hand and printed all the sections of the story which the boy would like to see on the dress using cellulose thinner. The doll guards a small book in her bag which contains the details of the story he wouldn't like to see, under lock and key.
The second part of the Merzbox project was another, larger book, which was from the point of view of everyone else who read the story with the inside pages being the midden messages which the boy believed to be true, and the actual pages being what the princess actually thought.
